From the Director:

Hello, my name is Olivia Lieber! I am thrilled to be directing this season’s dinner theatre production of A Christmas Carol. I have previously directed, acted in, and produced a variety of shows, including Children of Eden (Producer/Director), Newsies (“Crutchie”), Beauty and the Beast (“Silly Girl/Ensemble”), and Fiddler on the Roof (Producer/Director). I’m passionate about creating an inclusive, engaging space where performers can grow and shine. It is a wonderful opportunity to work with such a dedicated production team and I look forward to bringing this show to life with the help of a talented cast.

What to Prepare:

  • Read for two of the characters listed below. Gender and age do not matter for the readings, so feel free to read whichever parts you like.
  • Sing part of a Christmas carol of your choice.
  • Be ready for cold reads from the script.

Readings (Prepare 2 of your choice):

 SCROOGE 1:
What else can I be when I live in such a world of fools as this? What's Christmas to you but a time for paying bills without money? If I could work my will, every idiot who goes about with "Merry Christmas" on his lips should be buried with a stake of holly through his heart.
 SCROOGE 2:
It’s Christmas Day! I haven’t missed it. The Spirits have done it all in one night. They can do anything they like. Of course they can. Of course they can, they're spirits. Hallo? Young person? Do you know the Poulterer’s, in the next street but one, at the corner?
 BOB CRATCHIT:
As good as gold. And better. I think he gets thoughtful, sitting by himself so much, and thinks the strangest things you ever heard. He told me, coming home, that he hoped the people saw him in the church because of his ... difficulty. Because it might be pleasant for them to remember upon Christmas Day just who it was that made lame beggars walk and blind men see.
 TINY TIM:
Father! Have you seen the goose for our feast? I bet you've never seen such a goose! God bless us, every one!
 FRED:
Moreover, I have always thought of Christmas as a good, kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time. And therefore, uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!
 MARLEY:
You are ever as you always were, Scrooge, a miserable old miser more concerned with profits than the welfare of your fellow man.
 GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT:
They drink to the day. And to you as part of it. This city is filed with people drinking to cruel and odious misers who make their meager feasts possible. For the day is for delight in me and my siblings! Come, now, Scrooge, and let us away to another celebration!
 BELLE:
And you fear the world too much. All other hopes you once had for a future we might share have fallen off one by one, until the pursuit of wealth surpasses them all.
 MRS. CRATCHIT:
The founder of the feast indeed! I wish I had him here. I'd give him a piece of my mind to feast upon, and I hope he'd have a good appetite for it.
